TAWHIRI RUSH

(Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa, Ngāpuhi)

‘Ka mua, ka muri’

My piece of artwork shows the ability to be able to look back and reflect, not to rewrite it but to embrace both good and bad. By doing this we can reshape our future for our kura.

The photo I have captured here is our old school logo leaned up on an old wall in Te Poho. There is sunlight shining on half of the logo reflecting us as the new generation and future of our kura. And the other half of the logo in the shadow represents our past and old boys. Although our school had a lot of backlash before closing, our school still holds mana of every person that has walked through these gates. We the new generation can’t rewrite the past but we can learn from it.
